What I love about March

March is a crazy month in New England....on one hand you have daylight saving time, new seedlings, baby chicks and lots of signs that spring is just around the corner....on the other hand, you never know when a storm is going to come through and drop 17 inches of snow on you when all you thought you were going to get was rain. Right now we have all of the above going on. This weekend my family went sledding, had a snowball fight, watered our seedlings and picked up a couple of baby chicks.

Return of the Turkeys

Well, it's almost March and I haven't seen these guys since last summer...so I guess they just stopped by to see the new deck maybe offer some creative advise!

A sad day in the backyard

Well, it was a bad couple of weeks for us...we have had our three hens for a couple of years now and regularly let them out in the yard to free range and then lock them back in their coop at night. Two weekends ago one of our girls didn't come back, we weren't sure what got her, but found a small pile of her feathers just outside the coop. We were all upset, but thought it's the cycle of life and some animal, maybe a fox or something opportunistic grabbed her. Then, last Sunday, my wife and kids were walking down the steps and something brought her back and left her in the side of the yard....that really shocked us. So now we are just confused, maybe a dog would do that, but I don't know....just not sure why something would of attacked her and then brought her back a week later...needless to say I buried her under a flowering pear tree on our property, which made the kids feel at least a little better about it

Rest in Peace Maria
