Last weekend was unseasonably warm, which has been the norm this year. So, I decided to get back into the garden and do a little work. My veggie patch is located near a tree line and as a result I have found tree roots working their way into my nice garden soil. To try and discourage this my helper and I dug a trench along the fence line and installed some pavers....hopefully this will help keep the roots out!

Snow Birds
Well...the snow only lasted two days, but I think the girls are happy it's gone considering they wouldn't leave the coop!

The 1st real snow of the season
We got our first real snowfall on Friday and have a 2nd storm today. Once it stops I'll be going out to check on the chickens and see how they react to snow

Just when I thought winter had arrived
I thought winter had finally arrived and then it was in the 50's yesterday....that's New England for ya
I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather so I brought my potted plants out
I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather so I brought my potted plants out
The purple pot is a Hot Portugal (hot pepper) plant. I had it on my deck all summer and it has spent the winter in my laundry room (below). It had one lone pepper, which I picked last week.
Then I let the girls out for some exercise. Their new favorite spot is around the compost pile.
Then I spotted this guy high on top of a pine tree checking out the girls. I'm not sure if he is capable of picking them up and taking off with them, but I didn't want to take any chances so back in the coop they went!
