Riders on the Storm and the After party

I didn't want to take a chance and leave the girls outside so they rode out the storm in our garage in this make shift cage

A little post Irene clean up party, we managed to burn all the debris in what was a beautiful next day

Party crasher....a little guest decided to drop by, this is the first snake I have seen since I moved to this house

Tropical Storm Irene

We were very lucky, not much rain, we had a lot of wind, but no damage. We lost power for about 24 hours, but from talking to friends and family that wasn't bad at all as most of them still are without power and had trees come down. I spent today picking up the debris in my yard and then went to help my sister who had 4 trees fall in her yard

Getting ready for Irene

I have been doing whatever I can to get ready for the storm, I packed up everything outside that could be packed up, did some extra staking in the garden, brought the potted plants inside, and moved the chicken tractor up against the coop hoping it will provide some extra protection from wind/rain. I have a dog crate and am debating whether or not I should take the girls out of the tractor and put them in the crate and let them ride out the storm in the garage...

Life through the eyes of a 7 year old

My daughter was busy taking her own pictures over the weekend. Here are a few of them

I have no idea where this kitten came from...it showed up about a week ago and hasn't left. I'm sure the reason why it hasn't left has to do with the fact that my kids named it (Smokey) and have been feeding it...the problem is I am allergic to cats! We have been trying to find a home for it, but so far no luck

Rainy Morning ride

I took these one rainy morning on my way to work

We have had a lot of rain over the last couple of weeks, but nothing that should have caused this

Squirrel Acrobatics

It rained most of the day today so this squirrel was the only thing in my yard getting anything done. A rainy day was a good excuse to finish up a couple of projects inside

Going back to an unfinished project

I took a break from the coop today and went back to another project that needs to be finished. My son and I hopped into my jeep and went to Home depot to pick up some more fencing (the only time I can get him to go with me is when I take the jeep). The first one we went to was sold out for the season, but another one had what we wanted. I was able to get the rest of the fencing installed today, hopefully I will be able to get it stained soon and then finally I will have one project that is finished!

A trailer full of fencing! I bought this jeep in 1998 and plan on keeping it forever...hopefully.

Hard to get it all into the picture, but I extended the fence in the back to the shed and on the other side behind the kids play area.

Hot Stuff Coming Thru

My first Hot Portugal pepper has finally ripened! These guys were planted from seed back on February 11th and the first one was finally ready to pick yesterday and became part of tonight's dinner...best fajita ever!

Know your land!

Flash back to very early spring, it was my first project of the year, cabin fever was running high and I couldn't wait to install my new 3 bin composting system. I picked the perfect spot on my back hill, not too far from the house, but just far enough that it would not be noticed...life was good!

Here we are today, I mowed the lawn and then had to mow a path to my compost bin so I could unload...I think I may have to move it...maybe next year when cabin fever has peaked again

Some progress is better than no progress

It was a busy weekend, but I managed to get a little bit further. It must have been my helpers, not sure if they helped speed things along or slowed things down...I'm just happy they didn't leave me any "presents" especially since they were busy investigating around my tools for most of time
